Youth Panel

Are you aged between 14 and 25?
Interested in music?
Do you want to contribute to shaping the future of an arts organisation?

Why not join Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias’ Youth Panel?

CGWM is keen to make sure that young people have a voice in shaping the future of  the Music Centre.

We wish to recruit more young people to join our Youth Panel for the 2024-25 academic year.

We encourage young people aged between 14 and 25 who are interested in joining to attend the 2024-25 Youth Panel launch event at Galeri Caernarfon on the 26.7.2024 from 10.30am – 12noon when artist and CGWM tutor Malan along with two staff members, Mali Elwy and Gabriel Tranmer will lead an informal discussion over a cuppa and cake. There will also be a short performance from Malan.

You are also invited to bring your instrument (or voice) along and stay on for an informal jamming session 12-1pm if you wish.

During 2024-25 the panel will meet bi-monthly at Galeri (With the option to join on zoom if desired). A representative from the panel will also report to CGWM’s Board of Trustees-Directors.

As well as contributing ideas, the Youth Panel members will be able to volunteer in CGWM activities if they wish.

This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your CV and possibly collect volunteering hours as part of volunteering schemes.

We are confident that the Youth Panel can contribute creative and fresh ideas to help us achieve some of CGWM’s main aims for the future including:

  • Engage with groups currently under-represented in the Arts.
  • Develop the musical talents of children, young people and adults.
  • Support young people who wish to develop a career in music.
  • Expand CGWM’s Arts in Health programme.
  • Expand CGWM’s provision to include all genres of music from classical to electronic, world music to rock.

We arrange translation service for the meetings to enable members to contribute in Welsh or English.

We can also offer a contribution towards travel costs to attend meetings.

CGWM is keen to celebrate the diversity of the young people of Wales and encourages and welcomes applications from young people of all gender identities, race, sexual orientation, marital status, religion or belief, nationality, ethnic origin and young disabled people.

CGWM’s current students, past student and young people who have an interest in music and haven’t engaged with CGWM before are encouraged to apply.

Safeguarding

Safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk is taken very seriously by CGWM. A copy of our safeguarding policy and several other policies can be found on our website Policies | Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias (cgwm.org.uk)

It’s possible that some elements of the Youth Panel’s work will require members to undertake a DBS check.
