Caleb Rhys Jones
Caleb was born in Gerlan, above Bethesda. He has now settled in Caernarfon, and is increasingly in demand as a voice tutor and choir leader.
Caleb started singing after he joined Côr y Penrhyn at the age of 16, before deciding to go on to study voice as part of his Music degree at Bangor University. He graduated with Honors in 2018, receiving the Parry Williams Award and the Eric Morris Memorial Award for outstanding success in the third year. After a short period working for the Gwynedd and Môn Schools Music Service and Codi'r Tô, he went on to study a degree in Opera and Voice Studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. He received a scholarship from Salford Cathedral and appeared in various opera and song productions during his time in Manchester.
He graduated with Honors from the Royal Northern in 2021, before moving back home to Snowdonia to work for BBC Radio Cymru. Since he moved back to north Wales he is clearly in demand as a versatile musician. He worked as a Choir Leader for Only Boys Aloud, and as a Singing Leader and Music Practitioner for the Welsh National Opera (WNO) on youth programs in North Wales. He now works as a Project Leader for the Arts Council of Wales' Creative Learning programme. Any spare time is devoted to singing, leading choirs, and pop music.
Caleb's expertise is in the anatomy of the voice and his teaching technique is based on what is most natural and intuitive for the voice. Although he has studied the voice from a classical perspective, he is able to use his understanding of the basics of the instrument to learn in a variety of styles. He gives leading consideration to the wishes and needs of the individual in his work as a voice tutor.
