Born in York and brought up in Worcestershire, Emma started the piano at the age of four before moving to the flute. She studied at the Junior School of Music in Birmingham, went on to the Purcell School and then subsequently read music at Cambridge University. She studied the flute with Bernard Herrmann, Kate Hill and Jonathan Snowden, also playing in workshops with William Bennett, Geoffrey Gilbert, George Caird and Nicholas Daniel.

During the last twenty years Emma has taught and performed across the Midlands; encouraging a love of music making in both children and adult learners, alongside playing principal flute with the Sinfonia of Birmingham and the Syska flute ensemble. She has given performances of Mozart’s flute concerto K314, his flute and harp concerto K299,  Rutter’s “Suite Antique”, Bach’s Brandenburg concerto no. 5, Cimarosa’s concerto for two flutes and William Mathias’ flute concerto.

Since moving to Wales in 2021, Emma has been teaching flute for the Gwasanaeth Cerdd Ysgolion Gwynedd a Môn and recently, Prifysgol Bangor.
