CANOLFAN GERDD WILLIAM MATHIAS 2012 PIANO FESTIVAL
4-6 MAY – Galeri, Caernarfon, North Wales

COMPETITION RULES
(a) All competitions are open to pianists of any nationality.

(b) There is no minimum “cut off” age for any of the competitions i.e. a competitor is free to enter any class provided he / she is under the required age as stated in the syllabus.

(c) Pianists and accompanists may compete in more than one category, but must pay the entry fee for all competitions.

(d) The decisions of the jury are final and binding, and cannot be challenged. The competition organisers reserve the right not to award prizes (or the maximum competitors in the Final Round) if the standard is not sufficiently high in the opinion of the jury.

(e) Before the Festival commences, competitors’ names will be drawn by an independent panel to decide on the order of performance. This order will then be followed at every stage.

(f) Competition C for Accompanists. Those who qualify for Round 2 (the final) will have an opportunity to rehearse with the soloists before hand and also will be given the score for the ‘quick study’ an hour before the performance.

(g) The organisers reserve the right to :
i) Record any part of the competitions
ii) Broadcast any part of the competitions
iii) Allow photographers to take photographs during the festival to be used by
the press and media and in Canolfan Gerdd William Mathias publicity materials (including the internet)
The organisers will not pay the competitors any broadcast fees for any performance relating to this festival.

(h) The deadline for receiving all entries (and recordings for competition A) is March 1st, 2012.

Please note the following point regarding the competition for pianists aged 22 and under

Stage 3 - Where it states “No pieces may be carried over from the first round” first round means Stage 2 of the competition (preliminary round).

To confirm; No pieces from Stage 2 (preliminary) can be repeated in Stage 3 (final).
